Program Notes
Rain - something that is omnipresent and uncontrollable - has been present with me at many major turning points in my life. This connection has made rain a symbol of change for me, and Water for my Mind is meant to reflect those themes of change and renewal. Something is always changing within the orchestration and composition of the piece: tempo, rhythm, harmony and dynamics are inconsistent between sections, and the primary voice switches constantly between instruments. Each instrument is rarely in unison, too, reflecting the cacophony and chaos of nature as a whole. These components create a piece that is loosely held together, but also a wild display of color and sound.
